April 2025 Newsletter

Community,
We are so excited to share with you all that HB 56: Medicaid Reimbursements for Birth
Centers, was signed by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham into law yesterday! This bill
creates a methodology for birth center facility reimbursement that is equitable to hospital
reimbursement for the same services rendered. Not only will this bill positively impact DAL,
it creates a pathway to sustainability for birth centers across the state. A huge thank you to
everyone who testified, signed cards in support, and helped make this possible. We are so
grateful for you all and the ways you show up for DaL.
We’d also like to give an extra special thank you to our Board President-elect, Carrie Robin
Brunder. Carrie has always been committed to helping Dar a Luz find pathways to
sustainability. She led our team through this whole process – from brainstorming to being
on the House floor as an expert witness. She has been there every step of the way to make
HB 56 a reality for DaL and other birth centers in New Mexico.
As we celebrate this incredible milestone, we are reminded of the strength and power of
our community. Your continued support makes this work possible—from advocating for
systemic change to helping us dream big, like transforming an RV into a mobile lactation
station (more info below!). Together, we are shaping a more equitable, compassionate
future for birthing families in New Mexico. Thank you for being part of the Dar a Luz family.
We can’t wait to see what we accomplish together next.

Help Us Create a Mobile Lactation
Station for Families
We are seeking the donation of an RV to transform into a mobile lactation station that
will be used at Dar a Luz as an additional lactation room. The goal is to have a
functioning RV that can also be moved for community events.
Your generous donation will directly support breastfeeding families, promote infant
health, and help create a more inclusive, family-friendly community.
If you have a vehicle to donate or know someone who does, please reach out! We’d
love to give it a second life in service of parents and babies.
Contact us by responding to this email.
💙 Thank you for your support!
